Gauchos Whip Broncos 6-1 To Remain Perfect at Home

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team pushed its home record to 6-0 on the season following a beautiful 6-1 dismantling of the Boise State Broncos.

UCSB (7-5) will now look to keep its home streak alive when it faces Gonzaga in a couple days while Boise State will hope to bounce back from suffering its first loss following a three-game win streak it had going heading into this match.

The Gauchos got off to a hot start sweeping to a 6-0 victory at the No. 3 doubles behind the play of sophomore transfer Joseph Guillin and freshman Victor Krustev. Top junior pair, Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and Anders Holm, then secured the opening doubles point with a convincing 6-4 win at the No. 1 court.

UC Santa Barbara then carried that momentum into singles play. Moreno de Alboran won his third consecutive singles match following a solid win over at the top court where he has played all season.

On courts two and three, UCSB played much of the same as Guillin won his unprecedented 10th consecutive singles match to improve to 11-1 overall in singles following a straight set win while senior captain Simon Freund won his second match since returning from injury in another straight-set win, respectively. Following Guillin's win at court two, the Gauchos had sealed the match win.

In between Santa Barbara's wins at the No. 2 and 3 courts, however, Boise State was able to pick up its only win of the match with a win by Pedro Platzeck's dominant straight-set win over UCSB's Ajai Shekhera, 6-1, 6-0. In his third appearance for the 'Chos at the No. 6 hole, Sunday's loss was a tough one for the freshman who is trying to secure the final spot.

Despite the loss on court six, UC Santa Barbara still displayed it's dominance throughout the entire match. Holm earned a solid win at the No. 4 spot which might while Krustev was pushed to three sets at No. 5 but still managed to come out the victor.

Overall, UCSB proved once again this weekend that it is dominant at home. UCSB has not allowed a visiting team to score more than two points in a single match while at the Rec Cen Courts and has continually shown improvement. With a much tougher match coming on Tuesday, Santa Barbara will hope to keep up the hot streak before taking nearly a two-week break.

The Gauchos will play the Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13th at the Rec Cen Courts. Follow @UCSBtennis on twitter to keep up to date with the team.
