Weekend Preview

The No. 10 UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (9-9, 0-2) continues Golden Coast Conference action this Friday when it hosts No. 6 UC Irvine (10-7, 1-1) to Campus Pool at 3:00 p.m. This will be the third meeting of the year between these two teams, and will serve as the rubber match, after UCSB and UCI split the first two meetings. The first matchup came on opening day at the Triton Invitational with the Gauchos coming away with a thrilling 14-12 victory in overtime. After taking an early lead, only to see the Anteaters rally in the second half to force extra time, Boris Jovanovic tallied two goals in OT to five UCSB the win. In their second meeting, at the prestigious Mountain Pacific Invitational, UCI got redemption behind a stellar 16 save performance from goalie Matej Matijevic. UCSB outshot the Anteaters 38-25 in that one but the UCI defense was tough to break through. Jovanovic played strong once more with two goals to lead the Gauchos.
