2009 ACADEMIC ALL-MPSF
2009:Played in all 29 contests for the
Gauchos...Scored five goals and was fourth on the team with eight
assists...Drew 12 penalties or ejections...Also posted three steals
and five field blocks...Scored in the 9-7 win at UC San Diego (Oct.
16)...Also had goals against Cal Lutheran (Sept. 5), Air Force
(Sept. 19), Santa Clara (Oct. 30) and Fresno Pacific (Nov.
7)...Earned Academic All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation
honors.
2008: Played in four of the Gauchos' 27 contests in his first year on the team...Tallied one goal against UC Irvine (Oct. 11) and one assist.
UCSB SWIMMING
2010: Took sixth in the 200
freestyle (1:40.32) and fourth in the 500 free (4:30.20) at the Big
West Championships...Was on the Gauchos' second-place 800 freestyle
relay (6:37.16)...Won the consolation heat of the 200 backstroke
(1:51.02). 2009: Awarded the Robert Webster Team
Spirit Award...Placed eighth in the 200 free (1:40.03), eighth in
the 200 backstroke (1:53.27) and 13th in the 200 IM (1:53.27) at
the Big West Championships...Took second in the 800 free relay,
setting a new school record (6:31.07) at the Big West
Championships. 2008: Placed fourth in the 200 free
(1:39.71), seventh in the 800 free relay (6:40.53), eighth in the
100 IM (1:52.83) and 23rd in the 100 free (48.30) at the Big West
Championships. 2007:Finished 17th in the 200 free
(1:40.92) and in the 200 IM (1:51.83) at the Big West
Championships.
HIGH SCHOOL
Played water polo at Burlingame High School under coach Dave
Meyers...Also a member of the swim team, he was a four-time
all-league swimmer and also earned All-American honors.
PERSONAL
Joseph Thomas Plume was born on April 30, 1988 in San Mateo,
Calif....Son of Rick and Beth Plume...Has three sisters: Liz,
Becca, and Olivia...Is majoring in global studies at UCSB...Enjoys
hanging out with friends and baking pies in his free time...His
most memorable athletic achievement was bowling a lifetime best 222
with seven strikes...Names former Gaucho swimmer and Olympic gold
medalist Jason Lezak as his personal hero...Names "The Sound of
Music" as his favorite film while "East of Eden" is his favorite
novel.
