SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Mario Felix, who spent the 2017 season as an assistant women's soccer coach at Westmont College, has been named to the same postion at UC Santa Barbara, head coach Paul Stumpf announced.
"We are excited to add Mario to our coaching staff," Stumpf said. "He has a very good coaching background and is a really quality, high-character person."
When he joined the Westmont coaching staff in the summer of 2017, Felix, a native of Oxnard, was essentially coming home. Prior to his one season with the Warriors, he served one season as head men's soccer coach at Bethel College in North Newton, Kan.
In addition to his coaching at Bethel, Felix was a women's soccer assistant coach at Colorado Christian and MidAmerica Nazarene. He was also the director of operations for women's soccer at the University of Kansas and served as an assistant coach and director of operations for the Kansas City Courage of the Women's Soccer Premier League. He also has a history of working with club sports, having coached with Kansas ODP and the Kansas Rush in Wichita, the Colorado Rush, the Sporting Kaw Valley Soccer club and the Kansas City Legends.
"I am extremely excited to be a Gaucho," Felix said. "Growing up Oxnard I got to spend a lot of time around athletic events, naturally UCSB feels like home. I'm grateful for the opportunity Paul has given me to help lead our young women on the field as well as preparation for life after college athletics. I am looking forward to continually strengthening the program on and off the field for the years to come."
