SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara women's doubles team of Palina Dubavets and Stefani Stojic are ranked No. 8 to open the 2016-17 season in the Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released on Tuesday.
"This is a fantastic and well-deserved accomplishment for Stefani and Palina," said UCSB head coach Simon Thibodeau. "They had a very strong year in doubles and worked very hard to get to this level."
Dubavets, a junior, and Stojic, a senior, advanced to the second round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament when they defeated DePaul's Rebeca Mitrea and Yulia Shupenia, 6-1, 6-2. The following day, the Gaucho tandem fell in a thriller to top-seeded Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay of North Carolina, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.
The No. 8 ranking means that Dubavets and Stojic will compete in the Preseason All-American Tournament.
"This means they also qualified for the main draw of the All-American, one of the three national tournaments," said Thibodeau. "It's awesome to see Gauchos ranked in the top-10 nationally. We are very proud of them.
Overall, Dubavets and Stojic went 26-8 in 2015-16, including a 15-5 mark in dual matches.
