SAN DIEGO, Calif. - For the first time ever, UC Santa Barbara will send two women's doubles teams into the ITA Southwest Regional Championships as both teams won their quarterfinal matches at the University of San Diego on Saturday.

For the top-seeded doubles team of Palina Dubavets and Stefani Stojic, it was no surprise that they found themselves in the semifinals after an 8-6 win over Jessica Failla and Rianna Valdes of USC. Dubavets and Stojic will play Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela of Cal State Fullerton.

The second Gaucho tandem to earn its spot in the semifinals was Stephanie Yamada and Melissa Baker, which cruised to an 8-4 win over Hawaii's Nicole Dolakova and Roxanne Resma. Yamada and Baker will meet the winner of a later match between the second seeded team, Mayar Ahmed and Christine Maddox of Pepperdine, and the No. 5 seeded duo of Jada Hart and Ena Shibahara of UCLA.

"I'm proud of our teams," said head coach Simon Thibodeau. "Our UCSB program is really getting stronger, and its nice to have two doubles teams in the semifinals of a strong region. We have great challenges ahead of us tomorrow and we hope to rise to the occasion. This is a great opportunity.
