As a junior, Palina Dubavets had another outstanding season for UCSB...Selected First Team All-Big West in singles and doubles for the second year in row...Finished with a 14-12 overall record, including 9-10 in dual matches...Played exclusively at the No. 1 position in the dual match lineup...Overall, Dubavets went went 22-13 in doubles matches, including 16-8 in dual matches...She played with three different doubles partners, going 14-7 overall and 9-4 in dual matches with Stefani Stojic, 7-4 overall and 7-3 in dual matches with Melissa Baker, and 1-1 overall with McKenzie Majerle...Played No. 1 doubles in all but one match...Along with Baker, Dubavets played in the NCAA Tournament doubles championship where they fell to 16th-ranked Joana Valle Costa and Ryann Foster of LSU, 6-2, 7-5...Finished the year ranked 62nd nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association with Stojic and 68th with Baker...During the dual match season, her nine singles match victories included wins over USC's Zoe Katz (6-4, 6-4) and South Carolina's Mia Horvit (6-4, 6-0)...Along with Stojic, she had a doubles win over the tandem of Zoe Katz and Gabby Smith from USC.
Dubavets had a standout first season at UCSB...As a sophomore, Dubavets earned First Team All-Big West honors in both singles and doubles...Recorded a 24-8 overall mark in singles, including 17-6 in dual matches...Played primarily at No. 1 and No. 2 in the singles lineup...Went 5-3 at No. 1 and 12-3 at No. 2...Helped UCSB to its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory when she posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Smith Hinton of Kansas...At one time during the season, Dubavets won seven straight singles matches and 11 out of 12...Teamed with Stefani Stojic to form a potent doubles tandem...The Dubavets-Stojic tandem advanced to the NCAA Tournament where it won its first round match over Rebeca Mitrea and Yulia Shupenia of DePaul, 6-4, 6-2...Lost a thrilling second round match to the No. 1 seeded duo of Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay from North Carolina, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7...Dubavets went 26-8 overall in doubles, including 25-7 with Stojic...At one point, Dubavets and Stojic won 12 consecutive matches during the tournament and dual seasons.
Palina attended TCU for her Freshman year of college where she posted a 17-10 overall singles record and a 19-14 overall doubles record.
National and ITF
Dubavets took the 3rd place doubles prize at the European Junior Championship as an U16 player, she accomplished 5 ITF doubles titles, one ITF singles titlem and came in first for the U16 and U18 Belarus Championship.
Palina Dubavets started playing tennis at the age of seven and entered her first tournament at age 8. Her most memorable tennis moment was when she played for the national team and they were invited to the U16 World Cup. Her favorite movies include The Bucket List and The Game, and she enjoys exploring new places and new hobbys during her free time. Palina looks forward to improving her tennis level both physically and mentally, and hopes to beat all of the teams in the Big West and help bring the team to the NCAA Sweet 16. Dubavets chose UCSB because of the great academic and tennis programs. She believes that UCSB can help her acheive both her goals as a player and as a person.
