CORVALLIS, Ore.— The No. 30 Gauchos (13-2) completed the sweep of No. 25 Oregon State (5-9) Sunday afternoon downing the Beavers 3-2. UC Santa Barbara has now won eight straight and capped off its Pac-12 schedule at a perfect 5-0.
The Beaver bats finally got going for Oregon State in the final game of the series, but sophomore Michael McGreevy was able to limit the home team to just two runs in his 5.2 innings of work. Junior Connor Roberts entered in the sixth to earn his fourth win of the season, and freshman JD Callahan finished the day off with his first career save.
Oregon State got on the board early collecting its first two runs of the series in the bottom of the second inning. They paired two walks and two doubles to take a 2-0 lead. Fortunately, McGreevy and the Gauchos stranded three Beavers to remain in striking distance.
Just two innings later sophomore first baseman Kyle Johnson stepped to the plate and jacked his second home run of the season over the right field wall to cut it to 2-1.
In the seventh is where Santa Barbara found their stride mixing disciplined at bats with Beaver errors to take the lead. Sophomore Steele Ledford collected a lead off walk followed by a single up the middle by freshman catcher Mason Eng who continues to show up at the plate. With two on and no out, freshman Nick Vogt laid down a sac bunt that eventually allowed Ledford to score after two Beaver miscues and tie the game.
The winning run came across just one batter later when senior shortstop McClain O'Connor reached on the third error of the inning by Oregon State and Vogt came across home plate.
UC Santa Barbara will test its eight game win streak Tuesday night at home when the team welcomes Cal State Bakersfield to Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
