Boone Named Preseason All-American by PerfectGame.org, Gauchos Ranked No. 10 Nationally

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara starting pitcher Rodney Boone has been selected a College Preseason All-American and the Gauchos have are ranked No. 10 nationally by the baseball scouting service PerfectGame.org and Rawlings.

Boone, a lefty, was named to the second team. He was one of several pitchers from the West Coast to receive preseason honors.

Players on the Perfect Game/Rawlings Preseason All-American teams were selected based on a combination of factors, including statistics from both 2019 and 2020, prospect status, 2021 expectations, and ranking relative to their draft status, said the website.  

Boone, a 6-2, 175-pound sophomore, was the 2019 Big West Freshman of the Year, and earned Freshman All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game and Baseball America.

He posted an 8-0 record with a 2.78 ERA over 81.0 innings, and ranked third on the team with 80 strikeouts.

In the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Boone went 2-1 with a 2.53 ERA, recording 31 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.

The Gauchos are the only Big West team ranked amont PerfectGame.org's top-25. They were unranked to open the 2020 season but finished at No. 18.

Zach Torra, Boone's teammate and fellow left handed starting pitcher was named second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball while UCSB was ranked No. 8 in its preseason poll, the highest preseason ranking in school history.
