SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Robinson Idehen, making just his third career start, tied his career-high with 21 points and sparked UC Santa Barbara to a 21-1 lead in the first five minutes, and the Gauchos continued cruising, blowing out Bethesda University 123-52 on Thursday night.

The 123 points scored by the Gauchos (2-0) set a new Thunderdome record and the tied the school record for points in a game. The 71-point margin was a new school record. In addition, the 34 team assists set a new mark and the 57-12 rebound margin set a new school record.

"We needed to get on the floor, with referees and another team," said head coach Joe Pasternack. "With everything that's gone on (COVID), we have mostly played against each other. The opportunity to play against another team was important for us."

UCSB dominated the Flames in every way, including a breathtaking 57-12 advantage in rebounds. 

"That's what I take pride in," said guard Josh Pierre-Louis, who had seven rebounds. "I only count one stat in my head during a game, and it's rebounds."

Idehen and Pierre-Louis combined for 28 points in the first half as UCSB took a 65-16 lead into the locker room. Pierre-Louis also had a career-high with his 17-point performance. He added three assists and two steals.

As a team, the Gauchos made 49-of-72 field goal attempts overall, 68.1%, including 27-of-36 in the first half, 75.0%. They also hit 11 three-point baskets after making just four in their season-opener against St. Katherine. 

In the end, UCSB had five players in double-figures. In addition to Idehen and Pierre-Louis, Miles Norris had 13 points and eight boards. He also had a pair of assists, two steals and two blocked shots. 

Senior guard Devearl Ramsey added 11 points, six assists and no turnovers. In two games, the Los Angeles native has 13 assists and a mere one turnover. Graduate transfer Destin Barnes added 11 points and a trio of assists.
