ST. GEORGE, UT – The UC Santa Barbara men's swim team finished in first place, while the women finished in third as they closed out the final day of the Dixie State Invitational Saturday at the Human Performance Center. The men racked up 1,056 points in a four-team field, finishing 126 points ahead of second-place BYU. The women tallied 545.5 points in a 10-team field in which UC San Diego earned the top spot with 768 points.
The freshman class continued to be integral for the men's squad, as Kyle Brill took first place in the 200 Back (1:44.51), while Taber daCosta finished second in the 1650 Free (15:30.76). Senior Kian Brouwer and junior Dominic Falcon added second-place finishes of their own in the 100 Free (43.74) and 200 Fly (1:46.02), respectively. Sophomore Corban McIntosh touched third in the 200 Breast (1:59.84).
The 1650 Free was a particularly strong event for Santa Barbara, snagging four of the top-10 spots. The 400 Free Relay team of Matt Driscoll, Brouwer, Austin Sparrow, and Sean Gutowski finished second (2:54.83).
On the women's side, junior Maelynn Lawrence and senior Dora Segggelke finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 Fly (2:00.77 and 2:01.30). Reagan Nibarger and Cami Collins represented the sophomore class, with Nibarger contributing a fifth-place finish in the 100 Free (50.88) and Collins adding a sixth-place win in the 200 Fly (2:01.30).
The Gauchos had two of the top-three and four of the top-10 finishers in the women's 200 Fly. In the 400 Free Relay, Nibarger, Hannah Joseph, Sydney Rouse, and Marriott Hoffmann finished in fourth (3:25.31).
UCSB returns to competition for the Husky Invite in Washington beginning December 3rd.
