Gauchos succeed at Jack Kramer Club Invitational

Los Angeles, Calif- The UC Santa Barbara duo of Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and transfer Simon Freund advanced to the quarterfinals of the Jack Kramer Club Invitational after defeating Pepperdine's doubles team of Nicolas Baez and Tom Hill 8-3 yesterday. 

After advancing, Moreno and Freund will face-off against Amit Batta and Sebastian Hawkens of Washington for a shot at advancing to the semi-finals. 

The Gauchos also did well in singles. After two impressive victories, including a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Michael Guzman of UCLA and a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Piers Foley of Washington, Simon Freund has advanced to quarterfinals. Today, Freund is matched up against Maxime Tchoutakian of Baylor. 

Another member of the UC Santa Barbara team, Nicolas Moreno de Alboran advanced to the quarterfinals in singles as well. Moreno's pair of victories included defeating Washington's Kawika Lam 6-1, 6-3 and Cornell's Daniel Grunberger 5-7, 7-6, 6-2. 

In the round of 16, Joseph Rotheram took the No. 2 seed Matias Sborowitz of Pepperdine to three sets but was defeated 5-7, 7-6, 6-4.
