SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- Rebounding from their tough match against No. 31 TCU on Monday, the UCSB men's tennis team came out with a surge of focus routing Gonzaga University with a final score of 6-1. The Gauchos are now 3-3 at home capping off their homestand with an overall of 8-5.

"We talked a lot about coming out with a ton of energy," Head Coach Marty Davis said. "I'm happy with the effort our guys put forth today it was a real improvement."

Santa Barbara put themselves in good position taking the doubles point thanks to their No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. On Court 2, Nicolas Moreno and Anders Holm set the tone by sweeping the Zag's Ruadhan O'Sullivan and Vincent Rettke 6-0. The pair is 9-4 on the season when playing together and currently on a three-game streak dating back to their match against No. 6 Baylor.

Cody Rakela and Kristian Prior then followed suit by defeating Simon Homedes and Ronzai Saurombe 6-1, securing the point for UCSB.

Moving on to singles play, Rakela clinched the first match beating out Emilio Moreno 6-1, 6-3 to put the Gauchos up 2-0. A 6-3, 6-2 win by Chase Masciorini and 6-2, 6-2 victory by Simon Freund indicated that Santa Barbara was in full force taking control of the game.

On Court 2, Morgan Mays saw some fight from his Vincent Rettke but eventually pulled away from his West Coast Conference counterpart by a final score of 7-5, 6-4. This was Mays' second win at the No. 2 position and sixth singles win overall.

Anders Holm kept a competitive bout against the Bulldogs' Saurombe in the balance, pushing the match to three sets, but came up short falling 6-1, 2-6, 3-6.

In arguably the most high-atmosphered match of the day, Nicolas Moreno bounced back from a rough 6-7 finish in the first set to advance past Ruadhan O' Sullivan 6-7, 6-3, 11-9 for the final.

"I think Nic showed us some really good things today," said Davis. "He fought back from being down the first set and finished it out. I'd say he was our strongest point today."

The Gauchos end their week on a high-note and prepare for another homestand taking on Princeton University and Boise State. UCSB's first match against Princeton will be held on Sunday, March 26 at 9 A.M. at the UCSB RecCen Courts. Santa Barbara will then wrap things up hosting the Broncos on March 30 at 12 P.M.
