DENVER, Colo.- UC Santa Barbara pushed their win streak to four games on the road Saturday afternoon squeezing past No. 52 Drake University for a 4-3 finish.

UCSB, ranked No. 55 according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, moves to 11-5 on the season. The Bulldogs drop to 12-10 with their loss.

Playing indoors due to intemperate weather conditions, the Gauchos battled it out with their Missouri Valley Conference opponent, coming back from a 3-2 deficit to pull away for the late victory.

In doubles, No. 9 ranked tandem Morgan Mays and Simon Freund got Santa Barbara off to a good note taking a 6-4 win over the Bulldogs' Bayo Philips and Frank Thorold.

A back and forth affair on court 2 ended in a 7-6 finish for Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and Anders Holm taking down their counterparts Vinny Gillespie and Tom Hands. This secured the doubles point for UCSB putting the Gauchos up 1-0.

Following Anders Holm's 6-1, 6-1 win on court 4, the Bulldogs came back with a run of their own as Tom Hands beat out Simon Freund by a score of 6-2, 6-3.

Chase Masciorini then fell to Bayo Philips in three sets, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4, setting the equalizer for Drake at two a piece.

With junior Ben Stride sneaking past UCSB's Morgan Mays 6-4, 6-3 and handing the Bulldogs a 3-2 advantage, the match seemed to be slipping away from UCSB.

Nicolas Moreno helped revive the Gauchos however, taking down No. 61 Vinny Gillespie in another tight singles contest, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, to put Santa Barbara back in position.

"Nicolas was the man of the match and coming from a set down to beat a talented player in Gillespie," said Davis.

All coming down to a matchup between Big West Player of the Week Cody Rakela and Drake's Barny Thorold, the junior split his first two sets before taking the match and sending the Gauchos home with a hard fought victory 7-5, 6-7, 6-4.

"Great effort from our team," Head Coach Marty Davis. "Cody clinched the win for us but Nicolas came up big in the end."

Santa Barbara regroups and finishes out their road trip against Denver. The Pioneers are 8-9 on the season.

The match will be held at 11 A.M. at Colorado Athletic Club Monaco.
