SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-  The No. 48 Gauchos swept their Big West opponent UC Riverside Sunday morning with a final score of 7-0.

Adding on to a commendable nine-game winning streak, Santa Barbara (16-5) has capitalized on their tough nonconference schedule to prepare them for the brink of conference play. Currently riding a 4-0 streak in conference, the Gauchos have one more match against arguably their toughest competition yet in rival No. 45 Cal Poly.

"[Today's win] was much better than yesterday's performance," said Head Coach Marty Davis. "Every court won in straight sets as well as making the second set easier than the first."

Despite losing the doubles points in it's two previous appearances, all three doubles pairs for UCSB took charge and executed to start off the match.

A 6-3 victory by Simon Freund/Anders Holm followed by a 6-3 win by Morgan Mays/Nicolas Moreno de Alboran secured doubles for the Gauchos. Cody Rakela and Kristian Prior clinched a win of their own beating out Kyle McCann and Max Cohen 6-4.

Rakela carried the momentum into singles play taking the first match of the day, 7-6, 6-1, over Riverside's Tadeas Lansky.

No. 5 Chase Masciorini persevered past a tough opponent in freshman Gilbert Chung 7-6, 6-0 snapping Chung's unbeaten streak of 12 singles matches.

With Nicolas Moreno out of the lineup, Teague Hamilton made his singles start for the Gauchos count. The senior won on court outing Anderson Ju 7-6, 6-4 and sealing UCSB's victory with their final point. Last year's record holder for most wins in a season at 22, Teague's previous appearance for Santa Barbara came on Feb. 25 against USF.

"We really dropped the hammer down in singles today and that was big for us," said Davis. "Our play as of late has put everything in order for Saturday's huge match against Cal Poly."

The Gauchos renew their Blue-Green rivalry next week as they take on the Mustangs. The match will be held at home on April 22 at 2 p.m.
