Moreno de Alboran Wins First Professional Tournament

Former UC Santa Barbara All-American tennis player Nicolas Moreno de Alboran won his first Association of Tennis Professionals tournament last weekend with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Italy's Giovanni Fonio at the M15 Antalya Tournament on clay courts in Antalya, Turkey.

Moreno de Alboran has steadily moved up the ATP rankings and is now ranked 505th in the world, his highest ever. He also has an International Tennis Federation (ITF) rank of 278.

"We are super proud of Nic," said UCSB head coach Marty Davis. "This win puts him in a position to move up to the next level of professional tennis, the ITA $25,000 tournaments."

As a Gaucho, Moreno de Alboran was an All-American, climbing to as high as No. 6 in the ITA rankings. He helped UCSB to four consecutive Big West Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament bids, including a 4-1 win over Texas Tech in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament, the program's first tournament win in more than two decades.
