2011: Played in 22 games for the Gauchos…Posted 23 goals, which was fifth on the team…Led the team with 39 drawn ejections and penalties…Tallied four steals, seven field blocks and 17 assists…Had a season-best four-game scoring streak running from Oct. 30 through Nov. 12…Had a season-high four goals against UCLA (Oct. 1)…Scored multiple goals on six occasions, including a pair of three-goal games against Concordia (Sept. 17) and Pacific (Nov. 6).
2010 ACADEMIC ALL-MPSF
2010: Played in all 24 games for the Gauchos…Posted 22 goals, which was second on the team and is tops among 2011 returners…Drew 22 ejections and penalties, tallied 16 steals, 14 field blocks and seven assists…Had a season-best seven-game scoring streak running from Sept. 18 through Oct. 2…Capped the streak with a season-high hat trick in a 12-10 win over Stanford (Oct. 2)…Scored multiple goals on five occasions, including a pair of two-goal games in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament (Nov. 27 and 28).
2009 ACADEMIC ALL-MPSF
2009: Played in 28 games as a freshman...Sixth on the team with 17 goals on the year, the most among newcomers...Opened the season with a four-game scoring streak...Posted a hat trick in his first collegiate game, a 15-12 victory over UC San Diego (Sept. 5) at the Triton Invitational...Tallied two of the Gauchos' five goals against USC (Sept. 6) at the Triton Invite...Led the team with his career-high four goals in an 11-7 victory over Santa Clara (Oct. 30)...Tied first on the team with 16 steals and led the squad with 12 field blocks...His 43 earned penalties or ejections ranked third on the team...Also posted six assists...Earned Academic All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors for his diligence in the classroom.
Played for Cooper City High School before transferring to Dos Pueblos for his senior year...Was coached by his father James Shoemaker at Cooper City before receiving the guidance of Chris Parish at DP...Was a three-time First Team All-American at Cooper City...As a freshman and sophomore, he was Florida's most prolific scorer...Was named the South Florida Player of the Year...Set state high school records for most goals in a single game (13) and highest goal per game average (4.7)...Earned Most Valuable Player honors at Dos Pueblos...Also competed in swimming.
Played for South Florida Water Polo Club...Is the first recruited UCSB player to be a member of the U.S. Junior National Team...Has traveled and played in Croatia, Slovakia, and Spain as a member of the Junior National Team and traveled to Croatia with the Youth National Team.
Brian James Shoemaker was born on May 15, 1989 in Hollywood, Florida...Son of James and Linda Shoemaker...Has one younger brother, Derek, who also plays water polo for the Gauchos...Nicknamed "Baby Shoe"...When not playing polo, he enjoys surfing, spear fishing, and hanging out with friends...Says his most memorable athletic experience was taking second at the 20-under Nationals...Names his father, James, as his personal hero.
