  • Riding the Momentum
    No. 7 UC Santa Barbara (5-1) will travel to Stockton, Calif., for this week's highly anticipated KAP7 Nor Cal Tournament. Santa Barbara has gained positive momentum for the two day tournament as the squad is now riding a three game win streak.

    Last week was another step forward as the Gauchos prevailed with two impressive wins. On the road, UCSB downed then seeded, No. 10 Pepperdine, 12-6. The Gauchos returned home to host its first home match of the season against a talented No. 9 UC San Diego squad. With three goals from junior attacker, Ryan Baliani, UCSB came out on top over the Tritons by the score of 13-10.

    Finishing sixth place in last year's Nor Cal Tournament, the Gauchos will look to build off the recent momentum into a better finish in this year's competition.
  • Getting to Know Loyola Marymount
    Ranked 12th in the Collegiate Water Polo Association rankings (CWPA), and seeded 11th in this weekend's classic, Loyola Marymount (1-4) is looking to get its season on track with a win against the Gauchos. Opening with four straight losses against highly ranked programs; No. 8 UC Irvine, No. 5 Pacific, No. 6 Long Beach St. and No. 2 UCLA, the Lions finally recorded its first win against No. 13 Pepperdine.
  • Offensive Leaders
    Playing in four games thus far due to injuries, senior, Eric Van de Mortel has been impressive when in the pool. Tallying eight goals and two assists, the Murrieta, Calif. native is among the leaders in the MPSF with his average of two goals per game. Junior, Ryan Baliani is proving himself as a leader with a total of nine goals to lead the team in scoring.

    Freshman, Shane Hauschild continues to impress and prove that he is a viable part of the team's offense. With eight goals and four assists through six games, the Santa Barbara, Calif. native is among the team leaders in offensive production.
  • Defense On the Rise
    Through six matches, UCSB has only conceded 41 goals. Averaging 6.67 goals scored against, the Gauchos rank fifth in the MPSF ranking for team defense.

    Junior, Nicholas Jordan is off to a stellar start at the two meter position with a team leading 13 earned player ejections, while senior, Brendan McElroy and junior, Ryan Baliani are tied for most field blocks with four apiece.
  • Whitelegge Honored as Player of the Week
    Recording 16 saves in last week's action, goalkeeper, Chris Whitelegge was named as MPSF/KAP7 Player of the Week. Tallying 42 saves thus far; the Newport Beach, Calif. native ranks among the top goalkeepers in the MPSF with an average of 8.4 saves per game. Along with Van de Mortel, Whitelegge is also the team leader in steals as he has accumulated five thus far.
  • MPSF Action Begins
    After competing in the KAP7 Nor Cal Tournament, the Gauchos will begin conference play with a pair of enticing and tough matches.

    Saturday, Oct. 4, UCSB will travel down south to take on No. 3 USC at noon. The following day, Santa Barbara will host No. 6 Long Beach St. for another top notch conference match at Campus Pool at noon.
