  • Stiff Competition at SoCal Tournament
    No. 6 UC Santa Barbara (8-4, 0-2) will travel down to Los Angeles, Calif. to compete in this weekend's SoCal Tournament. Hosted by No. 1 UCLA (15-0, 2-0), the tournament will provide premier matchups as 16 of the top 20 ranked programs are competing in the two day tournament. Santa Barbara will open its tournament schedule against No. 12 Pepperdine (6-6, 0-2) on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 12:15 p.m.

    Should the Gauchos get past the Waves, UCSB will then face the winner between No. 4 USC and No. 15 Air Force in the quarterfinals at 5:55 p.m. on Saturday.

  • Getting to Know the Waves
    UCSB will face Pepperdine for the second time this season as the Gauchos prevailed with a 12-6 win in the season's first matchup. Showing a 6-6 record, the Waves will look to upset the Gauchos and improve its overall record. UCSB will have a challenge of shutting down junior Luke Hewko, as the Irvine, Calif. native has an impressive 34 goals thus far this season.

  • Last Week's Action
    UCSB suffered two losses in last week's conference openers. The Gauchos faced an uphill battle at USC, as the Trojans defeated UCSB, 14-5. The very next day, UCSB hosted No. 5 Long Beach State to an entertaining and close conference battle. Entering a loud and energetic Campus Pool, the Beach avenged a previous 14-13 sudden death loss to the Gauchos with a 14-12 win. UCSB was led by Kevin Cappon as the junior tallied five goals in last week's matches. Junior goalkeeper Chris Whitelegge added 15 more saves last week to bring his saves total to 104 saves this season.

  • Offensive Leaders
    Through 12 games, the Gauchos have scored a total of 133 goals; good enough for an average of 11.08 goals per game. Only playing in nine games thus far due to injuries, senior Eric Van de Mortel continues to lead the team in scoring with 16 goals. Freshman Shane Hauschild is right there with Van de Mortel as the Santa Barbara, Calif. native has 15 goals. Juniors, Kevin Cappon and Ryan Baliani each have 14 scores apiece while Chase Racich has accumulated 11 goals thus far.

  • Defensive Ranks
    Allowing 110 goals with an average of 9.17 goals scored against the team, the Gauchos rank eighth in the MPSF in Team Defense. Whitelegge continues to be a bright spot for the team, ranking sixth in total saves with 104 saves. The junior goalkeeper is averaging a shade under 10 saves per game with an average of 9.5 saves per contest.

  • Up and Ahead on the Schedule
    Santa Barbara will return to MPSF conference action next week as the Gauchos will host No. 2 Stanford (12-1, 1-0) at Campus Pool on Sunday, Oct. 19, at noon.
