The No. 8 UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (10-11, 1-4 GCC) and No. 6 seed in the Golden Coast Conference Championships will take on No. 7 UC Irvine (13-9, 3-2 GCC), the No. 3 seed in the tournament on Friday night. UCSB is looking to flip the script from last season where it was the No. 1 overall seed in the GCC Tournament but lost both of its games. This year, after suffering through a handful of injuries, the Gauchos are the No. 6 seed in the tournament, but have plenty of talent to make a run. The first test will be the Anteaters, who UCSB has faced three times this season, losing two-out-of-three. The Gauchos won the first meeting on the opening day of the season, 14-12 in overtime, before falling 11-8 at the MPSF Invitational and 10-9 in another close battle at Campus Pool.
Last Week's Results
In the final game of the regular season, UCSB snagged its first win in conference play with an 11-10 overtime victory at Pepperdine. The win was the first for the Gauchos since its last meeting with Pepperdine on Oct. 5, snapping a six-game losing streak. Reed Cotterill led the way with three goals while Josh Jordan, Shane Hauschild and Boris Jovanovic each tallied a pair of goals. Connor Macdonald came up big in the cage, notching 12 saves.
