FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 2-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team maintained its perfect record and continued shattering longstanding records in a convincing 21-7 win over Fresno Pacific at Sunnyside Aquatics Complex on Saturday afternoon, marking the Gauchos' second victory over the Sunbirds this season.

The Gauchos dominated the match from the opening whistle, scoring the first four goals of the match en route to a 7-3 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter.

Santa Barbara doubled its tally in the second frame, with goals from senior utility Ivan Gvozdanovic, the third in his hat trick on the day, a pair from freshman attacker Mason Chambliss, and scores from four others putting up UCSB up 14-5 at the half.

The Gauchos would cruise to victory in the second half, allowing just two goals while putting up eight more to complete the 21-7 showing.

Freshman attacker Colton Gregory put up his finest performance of the season, finding the back of the cage five times, twice in both the first and third quarters.

Junior goalkeeper Tiago Bonchristiano made eight saves and assisted on two goals.

With the win, the Gauchos set a new program record for the longest win streak within a single season, having won all 13 of their games so far in the 2019 campaign.

The previous mark was set at 12 games by the 1979 national championship team, who will be honored at halftime of the men's soccer match vs Cal Poly on Oct. 5 and during the men's water polo game against USC on Oct. 6 in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the achievement.

In addition, head coach Wolf Wigo's team has won its last 15 games dating back to last season, with UCSB's last loss coming on Oct. 21, 2018.

UCSB heads to Spieker Aquatics Center on the campus of UCLA next weekend for the SoCal Invitational, beginning on Friday, Sept. 27. More information about the Gauchos' matches will be available later in the week.
