LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 7 Long Beach State ended the No. 8 UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team's three-game win streak on Sunday, defeating the Gauchos in their Golden Coast Conference opener 13-10.

Santa Barbara is now 6-4 overall, 1-0 conference while the Beach improves to 8-3 overall, 1-0 GCC.

Goalscorers: Zamanian (3), Brosnan (2), McFarland, Sutter, Hawkins, Nangle, Allen

Seven different Gauchos scored in the game, led by redshirt freshman attacker Brock Zamanian's first hat trick of the season. Unfortunately for UCSB, it was never able to take the lead.

LBSU scored the first two goals in the opening period, but Zamanian answered with two straight to tie it 2-2. After Long Beach went on another 2-0 run, Zamanian put away his third of the day in the second quarter to make it 4-3.

Still just a one-goal game in the final minute of the first half, everything would change before the break. LBSU scored three goals in the span of 44 seconds to take an 8-4 lead into halftime.

UCSB wasn't able to recover the rest of the way, as the Beach took as large as a five-goal advantage in the fourth quarter.

Senior driver Ryan Brosnan was the only other Gaucho with multiple goals on the day. He scored twice for the third time in five games. Senior goalkeeper Danny Roland racked up seven saves while playing the whole game.

Next weekend, the Gauchos will travel to Stanford for the three-day MPSF Invite from Sept. 23-25.
