2017 Cross Country
Competed in three meets for his senior cross campaign. Started things late due to early season injuries at the Mustang Challenge, covering the 8k course in 26:39.3. Ran 18:32.1 for 6k at the Highlander Invitational to take 24th overall. Finished his season at the Conference Meet where he ran 25:51.7 to take 39th.
2016 Cross Country
Competed in four competitions for the Gauchos. Clocked a modest 25:10.9 at the Stanford Invitational after missing some early season races due to injury. Improved on that performance two weeks later at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational with a 24:44.9. Stepped up big time at the Big West Conference Championships by coming in at number four for the team, scoring for the first time at 14th place to help the Gauchos secure a 2nd place team finish. Closed out the season with a 93rd place finish at the NCAA West Regional Meet in 31:45.1.
Raced in eight meets in his sophomore track campaign. Lowered his 3000m best to 8:33.17, 5000m best to 14:31.30, and 10,000m to 30:25.30, placing tenth in his heat at the Mt. Sac Relays. Finished the season placing 13th in the 10,000m at the Big West Championships and 29th in the 5000m.
2015 Cross Country
Competed in four meets for the Gauchos. Recorded an 8K PR of 24:40 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invite.
2014 Cross Country
Raced in four competitions during his UCSB debut cross country season. Opened the season by running No. 6 for the Gauchos at the Lagoon Meet, clipping 25:27.6 over the 8k course. Came back and ran No. 2 for the Gauchos at the Cal State San Bernardino Invite, running the 8k course in 26:02.9. Put together his finest performance at Santa Clara. Taking the No. 4 spot for UCSB, Bright finished with a new cross best of 24:47.9, averaging 4:59.3 miles to place 70th overall. Ended the season running No. 1 for the Gauchos at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Invite, placing 16th overall with an 8k clip of 25:26.3.
Under the setting La Jolla sun of the Cal-Nevada Championships Bright outlasted a talented field of 20 to win his first collegiate race outleaning his opponent at the line to win in 31:03.77. Finished sixth at the All-Cal in the 3,000m with a time of 8:37.11. Set a seasons best time of 14:45.67 in the 5,000m at the Bryan Clay Invite. Placed 12th at the Big West Championships in the 10,000m with a time of 31:53.33. Turned in a 5,000m time of 15:49.84 to take 25th overall at the Big West Championships.
Attended Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi, Texas. Won the Texas 4A TAPPS 1600m with a time of 4:27.50. Also took home another first in the 3200m at the state meet with a winning time of 9:27.07, setting a new 4A state record. Set his personal best of 9:24.74 in the 3200m at the Acradia Invitational his senior year. Recorded district and regional championship wins in the 1600m and 3200m as a senior.
Parents are David and Regi Bright...Is a Regents Award Recipient...Lists Neil Young as favorite musician...Major is undeclared...Most memorable athletic achievement was making the team at UCSB.
