  • Gauchos to Host Final Home Game Versus UC Irvine, to Visit Cal Poly

    The Gauchos will be opening this week with their final home game of the season against UC Irvine. The last time the teams met was at the Bren Events Center where UCSB cruised to an 80-62 victory (2/11/16). In that game, Onome Jemerigbe and Je Zhé Newton each set their career highs with 20 points and 16 points, respectively. The Gauchos haven't seen Cal Poly since their conference opener on Jan. 7 when they ended their nine-game losing streak to the Mustangs with a 78-67 decision. UCSB shot a conference season high 55.6 percent from the field and went a combined 9-for-18 from three-point range. On Saturday, the Gauchos will be seeking their first regular season sweep of Cal Poly since the 2008-09 season.

    SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UCSB completed a season sweep of Cal State Fullerton with a dominant 79-49 victory in the Thunderdome on Wednesday night. With Makala Roper’s team-high 25 points and career-best six assists, the Gauchos finished with their largest margin of victory over a Division I opponent this season.

    UCSB will be facing Cal State Fullerton for the second time on Wednesday and will later play Hawai’i, the preseason favorite to win the league. The Gauchos previously beat the Titans in Titan Gym last month 65-47. In that game, Je Zhé Newton had a breakout performance with 15 points, while Makala Roper and Jasmine Ware scored 13 each. The Rainbow Wahine enter this week as the league’s top-rebounding team with 42 per game, and are riding a two-game winning streak heading into their game at Cal Poly on Thursday.

  • UCSB Eyes Season Sweep of UC Davis Saturday

    UCSB will only face one opponent this week, as they will journey up to UC Davis for a Saturday afternoon game. The Gauchos will be going for a season sweep of the Aggies who they previously beat this past Thursday in the Thunderdome 66-59. UCSB’s defense limited Davis to just 28 percent shooting in the first half and took off on a 23-8 run starting in the third quarter to take control of the game. Currently, the Aggies have three of the top-five shooters in the league with Celia Marfone (59.3-first), Morgan Bertsch (58.1-third), and Alyson Doherty (56.1-fourth).
