SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Announced on Monday afternoon, UC Santa Barbara senior forward Drew Edelman was named Big West Player of the Week after averaging a double-double and leading the Gauchos to a pair of key conference victories.
Edelman averaged 16 points and 11.5 rebounds per game while shooting 55 percent (11-for-20) from the field in home wins over Cal State Fullerton (78-59) and second-place UC Irvine (82-55) at the Thunderdome.
Against the Titans on Thursday night, the Sunnyvale, Calif. native racked up 20 points while grabbing eight rebounds, snapping her double-double streak at three.
Edelman, however, started a new streak with a 12-point, 15-rebound game to help UCSB upend UCI on Saturday, giving her a fourth double-double in five games and ninth this season. She is the first UCSB women's basketball student-athlete to be named Player of the Week this winter and has now earned the weekly honor two times in her career.
UCSB (11-14, 8-5 Big West) takes on Cal Poly (14-11, 8-5 Big West) this Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Mott Gym in a pivotal Blue Green Rivalry game that will determine third-place for the time being in the conference standings.
