LOS ANGELES – The UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team (0-1) dropped its first game of the 2020-21 regular season in a 102-45 loss to 11th-ranked UCLA (3-1) at Pauley Pavilion on Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman guards Anya Choice and Alyssa Marin and redshirt senior guard Doris Jones made their debuts for the Gauchos in the defeat.

The Gauchos found themselves in a 14-2 hole early on as UCLA set the tempo with a pair of Michaela Onyenwere jumpers and Natalie Chou triples. A jump shot from redshirt junior guard Bri Anugwom and a Jones three-pointer closed the gap to seven, but UCLA kept the pressure on throughout the rest of the quarter, closing out with a 22-8 advantage.

The Bruins expanded their advantage in the following period and held it throughout the game, outscoring UCSB by 18 points to take a 56-24 lead into the halftime break, and following it up with a similar showing in the final 20 minutes to nab their third win of the season.

Miller finished as UCSB's leading scorer with 16 points, while Jones also finished in double-digits with 11. Senior guard Mira Shulman led the team with four assists and two steals.

The Gauchos will begin a five-game homestand on Friday night against California Baptist. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. The game will be streamed on Big West TV with Gerry Fall on play-by-play and Louis Reynaud providing analysis. Live stats will be available on UCSBGauchos.com.
