Lane Earns Sixth Career Big West Player of the Week Award

The Big West announced its first round of basketball awards Monday afternoon naming Ila Lane of the UCSB women's basketball team Player of the Week. It is her sixth time earning the honor in her career.

Lane had a lot to do with UC Santa Barbara's perfect 2-0 start out of the gate, as the senior averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game against a pair of West Coast Conference foes. She was incredibly efficient as well going 15-for-21 from the floor for a .714 field goal percentage.

In last Monday night's season opener at Santa Clara (73-61), the veteran post player went for a double-double of a team-high 17 points and game-high 11 boards, seven of them on the offensive glass. On Thursday night in UC Santa Barbara's home opener versus Pepperdine (71-63), Lane went 8-for-9 from the floor and shared the game high of 16 points to go with a team-best six more rebounds.

UCSB Out to 2-0 Start After Home-Opening Win
Last Thursday the Gauchos opened up the Thunderdome doors and welcomed the Pepperdine Waves to their home opener. UCSB had a hot start in the contest, leading by as much as 21 points by halftime, but the Waves responded with a big third quarter that forced the Gauchos to play well down the stretch. UCSB did just that scoring 20 points in the final period and to cling on to the win. Ila Lane led the way with 16 points on 8-for-9 shooting and Taylor Mole had four triples on the night for a total of 14 points.

Gauchos Top Santa Clara in Season Opener
UCSB went on the road to open the season this past Monday and took home the victory topping the Broncos 73-61. The Gauchos outshot Santa Clara 45.2% to 36.7%, won the rebound battle 40 to 31, won the points in the paint battle 42 to 30, and held the team to just 14.3% shooting from the three-point line. Four Gaucho starters ended the game in double-figures led by Ila Lane who poured in 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting and completed the double-double with 11 rebounds.

Lane Named to Lisa Leslie Award Watch List
For the third season in a row, senior center IIa Lane from the UCSB women's basketball team was selected by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to the 2023 Lisa Leslie Award Watch List. This award is awarded annually the top center in women's college Basketball. Lane first got selected in the 2020-2021 season and then again in the 2021-2022 season.  She is one of the 20 centers to be inducted into this list.

The list will be narrowed down to 10 in mid-February and then 5 finalists will then be chosen in March to be presented to Lisa Leslie and to the committee. To help Lane move forward in this selected process, fans have the chance to vote. Fan voting opens up Friday, October 21 so fans can vote for their favorite players in each of the three rounds.
