Gauchos Fall in Doubleheader at No. 3 UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara softball team lost both games to No. 3 UCLA in its doubleheader with the Bruins on Thursday afternoon at Easton Stadium.

Game one: UCLA 8, UCSB 0 (5 innings)

The majority of the scoring took place in the fourth and fifth innings for the Bruins as they opened the day with a run-rule win.

The Bruins led 1-0 in the bottom of the second on a Washington sac fly that scored Wisz.

In the fourth inning, Nickles hit a grand slam over the wall in left field to put UCLA up 5-0.

Wisz and Brady hit back-to-back home runs to right center in the bottom of the fifth frame, before Thessa Malau'ulu singled to right field to plate Washington and walk off the game with the run-rule in effect.

Game two: UCLA 8, UCSB 0 (5 innings)

The Bruins took care of business early in the second game as they put on all eight runs in the first three innings.

Briana Perez kicked the game off with a homer to right center in the bottom of the first. Later in the inning, Aaliyah Jordan scored on a sac fly by Delanie Wisz.

In the bottom of the second, Bubba Nickles singled up the middle to score Kinsley Washington and make the score 3-0 to UCLA.

The hosts capped it off with a five-run third on two home runs, first three-run Wisz homer to right center and then an Alyssa Garcia two-run blast.

 

The Gauchos remain in the Los Angeles area to take on Loyola Marymount tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available on UCSBGauchos.com.
