PALOS VERDES, Calif.- As four members of the UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team competed on day one of the Jack Kramer Invitational, sophomore Tiffany Lagarde stole the spotlight following a massive upset over tournament No. 1 UW's Ashley Chang in the Round of 32.

Lagarde warmed up in the opening round with a 6-3, 6-2 win over UCI's Dana Mackensen before heading into her matchup with Chang who earned a first round bye.

In a swift fashion, Lagarde sent Chang to sleep with a 6-0, 6-3 two-set sweep over the top ranked singles player in the tournament and stunned the crowd to advance to the Round of 16.

Following a bye in the first round, Lise Sentenac knocked off UCI's Alyssia Fossorier with a 6-2, 6-2 victory as Sentenac became the second of two Gauchos to advance into singles play on day two.

Tough draws for Juliana Valero and Shakhnoza Khatamova saw their singles runs come to an end early in the tournament.

Khatamova fell to No. 5 UCLA's Annette Goulak 6-2, 6-3 in the Round of 32 while Valero was outdone by University of Arizona's Kristen Prelle who finished with the 6-1, 7-6 win despite Valero's opening round win 6-2, 6-4 over UCR's Lindsey Gelinas.

The Gauchos earned a pair of doubles byes on the first day of the tournament, and day two kicks off Friday morning as Lagarde and Sentenac look to make a deeper run in the singles bracket.
