NORTHRIDGE, Calif.- In the final tournament before dual match season, three members of UC Santa Barbara women's tennis traveled to the annual CSUN Invitational to culminate this season's tour.
Of the Gauchos competing over the weekend, captain Amit Lev Ari persevered the longest as she advanced to the Singles A Semifinals before being beaten by LMU's Veronica Miroshnichenko with a 6-3, 6-2 finish.
"Amit [Lev Ari] has led this group every step of the way," said Head Coach Simon Thibodeau. "We use fall to reveal what we need to work on before the season, and [Lev Ari] has really embraced the process."
Lev Ari initially beat BYU's Emilee Astie in the opening round with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory before she moved on to defeat University of Pacific's Jelena Luckic 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the Quarterfinals.
Also competing in the Singles A bracket, Lise Sentenac wasn't as successful in her efforts. In the first round, Sentenac fell to BYU's Madeline Almeida in a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) three-set thriller.
Despite an additional 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 loss to UCR's Lindsey Gelinas, Sentenac bounced back in fashion with a two-set, 6-3, 7-6 sweep over UNT's Alexandra Heczey .
From Singles B competition, Dominika Paterova opened up her tournament run with a 6-1, 6-4 edge over UP's Neli Sunjic. The senior fought hard in the Quarterfinals, but ultimately fell to LMU's Siohban Anderson 7-5, 6-7, 6-3 in dramatic fashion.
Paterova teamed up with Sentenac to start Doubles A competition, but following the pair's 6-4 opening round loss, Sentenac paired up with Lev Ari for the remainder of doubles matches.
Lev Ari and Sentenac overshadowed BYU's duo of Madeline Almeida and Emilee Astie 6-1 in the Doubles A consolation Semifinal before dropping the consolation finals match 6-4 to UNT's Heczey, Badwy pair.
