TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- During ITA KIckoff Weekend in Tallahassee, Fla., UC Santa Barbara women's tennis was edged by host No. 14 Florida State 4-1 and No. 23 University of Miami 4-0 during the first road trip of the season.

The Gauchos opened ITA Kickoff Weekend as the only team competing that wasn't ranked within the top-25 nationally, and game one against the Florida State Seminoles began with tough matchups in doubles play.

From the one-spot, Amit Lev Ari and Elizaveta Volodko fell to Petra Hule and Victoria Allen 6-3 as the Gaucho duo lost for the first time this season while Hule/Allen remained undefeated on the year.

Florida State's senior pair of Nandini Das and Andre Garcia improved to 9-3 in doubles following a 6-4 final against Anastasia Goncharova and Dominika Paterova on court two for the doubles-point clincher.

Volodko was the sole Gaucho to snag a win against the Seminoles as she downed Hule 6-3, 6-3 on the second singles court.

In succession, FSU's Allen, Das, and Emmanuelle Salas finished off the match with singles wins on courts five, three, and one respectively.

Allen bested Juliana Valero with a 6-1, 7-5 finish while Das beat Paterova 6-4, 6-4. To clinch the win for FSU, Salas overcame Lev Ari from court one with a three-set, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 score.

Things didn't get easier for UCSB when the Gauchos faced the No. 23 Miami Hurricanes on day two of ITA Kickoff Weekend.

While Goncharova and Paterova swiped a 6-3 victory over UM's Selma Cadar and Maya Tahan in the two-hole, the Gauchos couldn't pick up another doubles win to relinquish the early advantage in favor of the Hurricanes.

Following suit, national singles No. 3 Estela Perez-Somarriba defeated Lev Ari 6-0, 6-2 on court one minutes before Tahan bested Tiffany Lagrade 6-3, 6-1 in No. 4 singles play.

To clinch, No. 69 Selma Cadar finished 6-4, 6-4 over Shakhnoza Khatamova to complete the 4-0 sweep over UCSB.

The Gauchos road trip continues with UCLA and USC on the horizon beginning Friday, January 31 at 12:30 p.m. at the Bruins Los Angeles Tennis Center.
