SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- For the second time in a three-week period, senior Dominika Paterova was named the Big West Conference Athlete of the Week after leading UC Santa Barbara women's tennis to it's most defining win of the season as she clinched the deciding point with her fifth straight win to secure a 4-3 victory over No. 32 University of San Diego.
The weekly honor for Paterova makes her the first player in the conference to earn multiple Big West Athlete of the Week awards this season.
Paterova went 2-0 in singles play over the weekend in San Diego, Calif. as she opened up the two-match slate with a commanding 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 43 Washington State's Savanna Ly-Ngyuyen. The Czech Republic native earned one of just two singles wins for UCSB against the Cougars.
A big performance for Paterova against University of San Diego gave UCSB the edge in their most notable win yet. Playing alongside teammate Anastasia Goncharova, the doubles pair took down USD's Solymar Colling and Helena Francati with a 6-3 win to help deliver the doubles advantage for Santa Barbara.
With the match tied at 3-3, Paterova's meeting against Gemma Garcia on court three would decide the victor.
After falling behind in the first set, Paterova battled back to outplay Garcia in a thrilling 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 comeback victory which handed UCSB its most striking win of the season with a 4-3 finish against No. 32 USD.
