Camarena Earns Women's Track Athlete of the Week Honors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Senior Katie Camarena earns her first Athlete of the Week accolades in track and field after her incredible two day double in the 1500m and 800m this past weekend. Redshirting the first half of the season, the upperclassmen was eager to return to the track in the blue and gold and made an emphatic return Friday night at the Sound Running Collegiate Invite to win the 1500m in a time of 4:17.85, the second fastest 1500m on the women's side in Gaucho history. Finishing just ahead of teammate senior Astrid Rosvall that day, who herself ran a number three All-Time clocking of 4:18.53, Camarena would come back less than 24 hours later at the Mustang Quad Meet to finish second in the 800m in a time of 2:08.64, the fifth fastest clocking in school history. She would only lose out to teammate Rosvall who had to drop a personal best and third All-Time mark of 2:06.70 to pull past Camarena down the homestretch at the  Miller & Capriotti Athletics Complex in San Luis Obispo. As of this writing, Camarena ranks first in the Big West Conference 1500m, second in the 800m, and 18th overall in the NCAA rankings.
