SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Senior outside hitter Lindsey Ruddins was named the Big West Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, tying the all-time conference record with her 11th career selection, while Tallulah Froley was named the Big West Freshman of the Week.
Ruddins earned her second Player of the Week honor this season and 11th all-time, tying Cal Poly's Kylie Atherstone (2005-08), after tallying 36 kills (4.50 k/s), 21 digs (2.63 d/s) and seven blocks (0.88 b/s) while leading UCSB to a pair of wins over UCLA and Pepperdine.
In a sweep over the visiting Bruins, Ruddins slammed down 17 kills on .333 (17-3-42) hitting to go along with seven digs and four blocks. Later in the week, in a come-from-behind reverse sweep over Pepperdine, the Laguna Niguel, Calif. native put together 19 kills and 14 digs for her sixth double-double of the year.
Froley, meawhile, earned her first career conference honor after piling up 30 kills last week. The Half Moon Bay, Calif. native hit a whopping .667 (15-1-21) with 15 kills to help UCSB top UCLA for the first time since 1998. In a come-from-behind win over Pepperdine on Friday, Froley also added 15 kills, including back-to-back kills late in the fifth set to secure the win.
UCSB (10-1) will take its eight-match winning streak into conference play, beginning this week with a home match against CSUN on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7:00 p.m.
