SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara senior outside hitter Lindsey Ruddins broke the all-time Big West record with her 12th career conference Player of the Week honor while Tallulah Froley was named Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon.
Ruddins, who earned four weekly awards as a sophomore, five as a junior, and three so far as a senior, surpassed the previous record of 11 held by Cal Poly's Kylie Atherstone. Froley, meanwhile, notched her third Freshman of the Week selection.
Ruddins racked up 38 kills while hitting .530 in an incredibly efficient week to lead the Gauchos to a pair of sweeps on the road at UC Davis and UC Riverside.
Against the Aggies last Thursday, the 6-foot-2 Laguna Niguel, Calif. native hit a career-best .548 with 18 kills before hitting .514 with 20 kills against the Highlanders. Prior to this season, Ruddins had never hit above .500 in a match, and she has done so three times already this year. She also added 13 digs and three blocks.
Froley was effective for UCSB as well, totaling 19 kills on .275 hitting (19-8-41) in the pair of wins. She averaged 3.17 kills, 0.83 blocks and 0.50 digs per set on the week.
At UC Davis, the Half Moon Bay, Calif. native tallied 10 kills in her ninth double-digit kill effort of the season on .273 hitting while adding three blocks and a dig. Froley finished with nine kills, two digs and two blocks at UCR on Saturday.
UCSB (18-2, 8-1 Big West) continues conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 29 against Long Beach State at 7:00 p.m. in the Thunderdome.
